The Documentary is being developed by Antonio Garza Meyer, of Airspeed Aviation Television, to expound on the book: "When The Wolves Came - A Memoir".
The documentary will align with the actual narrative in the book and create reinactments of actual events that occurred in Oaxaca, Mexico. The cost is projected to be about $125,000, and that amount needs to be raised so the lived story can become a reality to many people who have yet to hear of this heroic story. Although frightened by the drug cartel, Fr. Pfeifer was determined to remain with his parishioners in his hamlet. Unprotected by the Mexican government, Fr. Pfeifer was inspired by the Gospel story of the Good Shepherd, who stay and guards his sheep when the wolves come, rather than flee as the hireling does. In Mexico today, the temptation of the people by drug traffickers remains severe. Many of the Chontal and Zapotec Indians believe Mexico is a distant place , rather than their county homeland. In 2007, a stroke took Fr. Pfeifer from the front line in the war against drugs. Fr. Pfeifer penned his memoirs during his period of recovery.
Short exerpts from the documentary are included in the YouTube video below.
